The Wooden Ring Mount

The wooded rings are 1" thick and 1 7/8" wide. The inside diameter of the rings is 11 1/2". The two rings are spaced 7 3/8" appart. The total length of the base of the mount is 22 3/8" long. The rib is 3" high and the base is 5" wide.

I constructed the guide scope rings with three layers of 5/8" plywood laminated together. The rings were cut out with a table saw for the outer cuts then a router was used for the inner cuts. It's fun to cut discs on a table saw. I mounted the blocks on a wooden moving platform with a nail as a centerpost so I could turn the rings on the center and make repeated cuts. The platform has a runner underneath to guide the platform across the table like a cross cut fence. I made a cut and turned the block a little and made another cut, repeatedly. Once the shape was formed a sanding disc was installed in the table saw and the outer face of the rings were sanded smooth. I could not cut the disc completely to preserve the base of the rings to attach them to the mount. The verticle cuts for the base on the rings were made on the table saw free handed using pencil lines to guide the cuts. The inner circle cuts were made with a router that was mounted on a circle cutting jig using the same center nail hole. This required four passes to complete the cut. The base plate and rib was made with 5/8" plywood. A verticle 1/4" rabbit slot was cut into the center of the base of the rings to join to the rib. Blocks of 5/8" plywood were cut to form a second layer on the base and forming rabbits for the rings and the rib. All of the parts were glued together and screwed into place.
